Dairy
Dairy products include raw cow (sheep) milk and its products as the main raw materials, processed and made of various products. They can be classified into six major categories according to their main product forms, namely, liquid milk, milk powder, condensed milk, milk fat, cheese and milk ice cream.
According to iiMedia Research, China's milk production is on an overall upward trend, reaching 41.97 million tonnes in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 6.7%, and an improvement of more than 10 million tonnes compared to 2018. China's dairy products market size reached 659.97 billion yuan in 2022, up 3.27% year-on-year.
As consumers become increasingly concerned about health and quality, the dairy industry will invest more in new technologies to improve product quality and production efficiency. More dairy products with nutritional and health functions, such as yoghurt enriched with probiotics and low-sugar or sugar-free dairy products, are expected to emerge. In addition, product diversification will be an important trend, including innovative improvements in traditional dairy products and the development of new dairy products.
Industry chain integration will be another important direction for the development of China's dairy industry. Large dairy enterprises will integrate upstream milk sources and midstream and downstream processing and sales to achieve efficient operation of the industry chain, reduce costs and improve market response speed. Meanwhile, green development will also become an important theme for the industry. From production to packaging, dairy companies will pay more attention to environmental protection and sustainability.
